After aligning the photo’s eyes, I liked the facial alignment and got to work. Next, I used the heal tool to erase the left half of the man’s face and next again on the right side. However, I found the Heal tool to be too aggressive and it took a while to get it to work in a manner I was happy with. As a result, I noticed some significant detail loss of his left cheek and forehead. It was tedious to retouch all the hair on his head. To my surprise, the Heal tool erased the outer edges of the cheek, while it left the lower right cheek intact. The Healing function also reduced the size of the forehead, eyebrows, and hair, which, in the end, made it look better. Overall, this was a much faster process than using the three techniques mentioned earlier. Now, I will say that I preferred the editing outcome of this image over that of another edited at that of my friend with the three techniques. 

After some minor tweaking, I was happy with the final result. It is easy to see that this is a retouched photo. For the most part, the retouching was achieved with a couple of healing tools. The skin was smoothed, his eyes were brightened, and some minor retouching was performed.

It always felt like such a broad word to me that I’d end up applying the wrong amount of retouching to an image.
