So in addition to adding locations, you can take your existing SketchUp model and use Google Earth to show it off on the web. Google Earth has been working on this process for a few years now and only a few companies are still using the Sketchup Key Import Tool. The vast majority of SketchUp models are completely hidden from the general public on the Google Earth website. You can, of course, host your SketchUp models privately on the web if you want to show them to your friends and family. But you cant embed them in the Google Earth gallery.
If youre looking for a professional agency, SketchUp may not be the best tool for the job. However, if youre a contractor who doesnt want to hire the services of an architect, arent an architect, or dont need a clean looking house in a timely manner, SketchUp may be the right tool for you. SketchUp lets you create a 3D model of your home from scratch in very little time. But its not perfect. We have some basic recommendations for using SketchUp for home design, mostly geared at those who are not technically inclined.
Consider your audience. How do you want to present SketchUp? Do you want people to see a finished house with just the walls and a roof? Do you want them to see all the rooms in a high-level floor plan? Are you willing to put hours into cleaning up the model? SketchUp is not intended for use by a construction crew.
In many ways, SketchUp works just like a drawing tool. Your best bet is to explore the basic commands and get a feel for the app using a small area of your house or yard. If you want to impress your friends, model your home. You can use the blue lines to draw interior walls and the dark blue lines to draw exterior walls.

I’ve been teaching SketchUp since 2014 in Florence Italy, my students are really training in other 3d software but for me SketchUp is still the most important one and I still use it to train my students and students of mine. I’ve been teaching for 5 years now and in this time I made some changes in the way I teach SketchUp to my students. The most important one is that they learn how to work in editing mode. Before the teaching I let them use the default workspace and I’ve noticed that most students spend their time making different objects. What they don’t realize is that objects in the default workspace are locked and they can’t be edited.
Another thing I changed was that they learn how to use placement. Before I let them make a simple box and after I instruct them how to do with the interface. I’ve also tried a few other methods where I give them a simple box and they have to make the faces by themselves. I do that because sometimes they don’t see the interrest in working with faces. Of course it will be very important later when they learn how to spline and how to make things with geometry, but sometimes I need to make them work with basic things first to make them understand.
I would like to make another change and that is to work on modeling in the editing mode. I know how to model in the default workspace but, I let them learn by doing.
I want them to go to the workspace and model the box as they see it, otherwise they make something that they’re not looking at and using the front view they’re not able to make right angles and seeing the concept from the front view is one of the best things I can do. I also teach them how to work with the all views. That’s very important if they want to develop their skills.
Thanks for your time!

The SketchUp viewpoint tool is almost too good. The other modeling programs just keep improving, but this one is still working on perfecting a product that is already really great. I will say, however, that it does not have the best out of box settings. If you use SketchUp, SU Podium has you covered. SU Podium is well worth every penny, and will prove to be one of the most useful paid tools in your SketchUp tool box.
6. Installing the files
The SketchUp files were easy to install and they did not require any special third party software. The only thing I needed to do was to install the QuickTime Plug-in. In the beginning of Day Two I was a little concerned, when I first pulled up the files, that I may be missing something vital, when all was said and done. The QuickTime files were approximately 3.7 MB. To compare, several hours of HD video would be around 15 MB. So in theory, the files would be pretty big!
7. Getting started with sketchup
Here is where I learned to hold my breath! As described by Bob in the video, you open the.sketch file in SketchUp. Its absolutely vital to remember that SketchUp is not a PDF (portable document format) viewer. Its a very powerful drawing tool that comes pre-installed on your computer! I am not sure if the knowledge provided in this portion of the video was designed for adults or a child. The next thing Bob did was to try out the Zoom tool (not to be confused with the Magnify tool, although the Zoom tool does have a similar effect, its for when you want to zoom out to see the entire scene). The implication that SketchUp is only useful for intricate modeling is not true. I have seen SketchUp used for the construction of not only small but complex projects. For instance, I was listening to the first music lesson and was surprised to find out that Bob used SketchUp to construct the replica organs in the two-minute snippet. It almost looks as if he was trying to prove to me that any architecture or mechanical engineer can use this program.
